File a Moving Fraud Complaint

One prevalent type of moving fraud involves a "rogue" mover offering an attractively low quote for an interstate move. Once your belongings are loaded onto their truck, they claim that your load exceeds the initial weight estimate. They then demand that the additional weight be paid at an exorbitant price per pound. This scam forces consumers to pay double or more of the original estimate just to retrieve their belongings.

If you feel you have been a victim of fraud by a moving company, moving broker or auto transporter, you can file a complaint with the Moving Scam Stories by sending us a message.
Your complaint may trigger a Federal enforcement investigation against the mover.

Can filing a complaint make a difference?

Filing a complaint with FMCSA is your chance to help identify moving companies, brokers, and auto transporters who are reported to have engaged in violations of the commercial regulations. These complaints, along with other data sources, are used to make decisions about which companies FMCSA will investigate.

When should I file a complaint?

FMCSA’s online complaint tool is intended for investigation of a past event involving a violation of a law or regulation within the jurisdiction of the FMCSA. IMPORTANT: If this is a safety emergency, please call 911 immediately. The complaint tool is intended only for investigation of past events.

How does the complaint process work?

Your complaint will be entered into FMCSA’s National Consumer Complaint Database and will be used for analytical and statistical purposes. Your complaint will be maintained in the company’s file as part of its permanent record. If FMCSA decides to take enforcement action against the company you may be contacted to provide additional information and documentation.
